March 8th is known worldwide as the international celebration of the woman. It is March that brings us back to spring. Women’s Day was celebrated for the first time on February 28, 1909, in New York, in memory of a strike by women who demanded voting rights and higher wages.

In the following years, women were still celebrated in February, and in 1921, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin decided that this day would be celebrated on March 8 in the Soviet Union, in fact, also in February, according to the old calendar.

1975 was declared the United Nations’ International Year of Women (UN), and in 1977 the Women’s Day was recognized as an international holiday. This has become a tradition in Europe and the US.

Romania Levant Association celebrates each year with the ladies from the Romanian community in Lebanon during an event organized in collaboration with the Romanian Embassy in Lebanon. Flowers, “mărțisoare”, music and dance make this event an unforgettable one.

Ziua de 8 Martie este cunoscută în toată lume ca sărbătoarea internațională a femeii. Luna martie este cea care ne aduce revenirea primăverii. Ziua femeilor a fost sărbătorită pentru prima oară la data de 28 februarie 1909, în New York, în amintirea unei greve a femeilor care cereau drept la vot și salarii mai mari.

În anii următori, femeile au fost sărbătorite tot în luna februarie, iar în anul 1921, Vladimir Ilici Lenin a stabilit ca această zi să fie sărbătorită la 8 martie în Uniunea Sovietică, de fapt, tot în februarie, după calendarul vechi.

Anul 1975 a fost declarat ”Anul Internaţional al Femeilor” de Organizaţia Naţiunilor Unite (ONU), iar în 1977 Ziua femeii a fost recunoscută ca sărbătoare internațională . Așa a devenit o tradiție în Europa și în SUA.

Asociatia România Levant sărbătorește în fiecare an împreună cu doamnele din comunitatea românească din Liban în cadrul unui eveniment organizat în colaborare cu Ambasada Română din Liban. Flori, mărțisoare, muzica si dans fac din acest eveniment unul de neuitat.
