World Book & Copyright Day, also known as the International Day of the Book, is an event organized by UNESCO, which takes place every year on 23rd of April and aims to promote reading, publishing and copyright. It was celebrated for the first time in 1995. The date of 23 of April has been chosen because it represents the anniversary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare as well as that of the birth or death of other prominent authors.
In Romania this day was declared Librarian Day. We can not talk about book and writers without mentioning the libraries and the librarians who dedicate their work to books and manuscripts. The library has a primary role in training, education, research, culture, because the human memory develops through reading.
A library is not just a stack of book, it is the temple of reading and the librarians are precious people taking care of this temple.
The children of Romania Levant Association also celebrated this day with a presentation of several Romanian libraries and some other from around around the world and with a discussion about the importance that the libraries, the books and the reading have in the development of the individuals.
We hope dear children to step into a library with pleasure and you, dear parents, to accompany and support your child in this great “adventure” that is called reading.
