This years marks 140 years since the birth of Romania’s great sculptor Constantin Brancusi, several events being organized in his honor in Romania and abroad on Friday, February 19.

Romania Levant Association (RLA) commemorated on February 26 the “father of modern sculpture” and paid tribute to one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century with a presentation about his life, highlighting the steps in his career and presenting his works through a drawings exhibition realized by the children of the Romanian community in Lebanon under the guidance of their teacher Mrs Anca Cheaito.

February 24 is another important date for the Romanians, the feast of love, “Dragobete”. The day is particularly known as “the day when the birds are betrothed”. It is around this time that the birds begin to build their nests and mate. On this day, considered locally the first day of spring, boys and girls gather vernal flowers and sing together. If the weather allows, girls and boys pick snowdrops or other early spring plants for the person they are courting.
